Shop Spotlight: I Heart Florida Pillows

Do you love Florida! I do!!

It's officially been a week since I started this business of selling handmade goods, and my top-selling item is by far the I Heart Florida pillow! These are a few of the ones I took to the craft fair last week.

I also have ready made college-themed I Heart Florida pillows for the major universities of the sunshine state, including UF, FSU, UCF, USF and UM. I'm also fully willing and capable to create a custom order to honor your school if it wasn't named in that list.

My first sale!

Perfect for naps!
Several people have requested custom colors, which I'm more than willing to do! I love trying new ideas and working with people to create something perfect for them.

Please check out my Etsy shop and start a conversation with me about a custom order if you have something in mind! I've been to Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby several times in the past few weeks picking up new fabrics for new color combinations!

Plus, I'm working on some new applique designs too, including nautical and western themes and other U.S. states.

These pillows are the perfect home accent to rest your head upon while showing your love for Florida!

Game NOT Over!

I recently picked up my Legend of Zelda Wind Waker game again. I started my game in May 2010. In April 2011, I declared on this blog that I was going to finish the game, but instead I set it aside for two more years.

I play video games much different now that I'm a mother. It used to be all about the quest, but now my momma bear, protective, bad a-- nature kicks in with the bad guys. I whack them to purple smoke with my boomerang, sword, and bow and arrow.

I'm all like, "Oh, no you don't! Wha chaaaa! Yeah, that's right."

There's a part of Wind Waker called the savage labyrinth, where you jump into a hole that leads to a room of bad guys, kill the bad guys, jump into another hole, repeat for 50 rooms. Between each set of ten rooms there's a break room with no bad guys and a way to exit the labyrinth. However, if you exit, you have to start over from room one.

A couple weeks ago I got through room 30, where you get a treasure map. I ACCIDENTALLY exited, so I had to do it all over again to get to the 50th level where you get a piece of heart (not a big reward for all that domination).

I immediately re-did the first 30 levels, and got all the way to level 50, conquered two of the four bad guys, was so close I could taste it, and died. GAME OVER. It was extremely frustrating.

Last night I did it again.

By "did it again," I mean I got to the 50th level and died before victory. Right as I tried to drink my life-giving potion, little Link died, and those awful words spelled themselves across the screen. Game Over.

I thought many unkind words and imagined throwing the controller into the screen, but maintained control over myself. I said, "Seriously!!! It happened AGAIN!?"

I wish I could have said, "Whatever. I don't need another dinky piece of heart, It isn't worth doing it again." But darn it, yes it is. I had to conquer this annoying 50-level villain labyrinth, or it would always bother me.

As Bugs Bunny would say, "Of course you know, this means war."

Well, boom goes the dynamite. I did the whole thing tonight and won. Booyah. I was calm, relaxed and fighting like a kokiri ninja. No savage villain can stop me, not even four mighty warriors and walls that blow fire at you while you fight.

Craft Fair Recap

Last weekend I participated as a vendor in my church's inaugural arts and craft fair. I had initially turned down the opportunity thinking I didn't have any time to sew and craft with working and caring for Daisy, but then I thought about going to the craft fair and not being a vendor, and I knew I would regret it. I had also been wanting to start an Etsy shop for a long time.

So, two weeks before the craft fair, I signed on.

I said to myself, "I'll just make five Florida pillows and ten Sleepy the Elephants." But once my creative gears started cranking, I couldn't help myself.

I made 23 Sleepy the Elephants, 24 Lovey the Peacocks, 24 I Heart Florida pillows, 5 tutus, 4 flower headbands, 5 bow headbands, and 3 ornaments. I also got business cards, opened an Etsy shop, and did my best to design an eye-catching craft fair display.

I didn't really have time for any of that. It's amazing what you can manage when you're excited about something.

I didn't sell as much as I had hoped, but I did sell things! I also got several custom orders and basically stocked my Etsy shop with everything that didn't sell.

It was a really fun experience, but quite exhausting!! I used to be full-on extroverted, but I think in the last few years, I've crossed over to the introvert side. All the social energy, small-talk, and engaging strangers in conversation knocked me out. I love people; I really do, but I'm a bone fide homebody now.

This week I have finished five custom I Heart Florida pillows, which I'll post pictures of in another post. I'm also working on a logo and brainstorming more cute products to create!

Special thanks to Zane for taking care of meals and Daisy while I worked my butt off. Special thanks to Daisy for playing with a spool of thread in the craft room and taking naps to allow me time to work on all this stuff.

Please visit my Etsy shop, and if you have an idea for a custom order, don't hesitate to ask!

OGC Craft Fair on Saturday!

I did something crazy. I signed up as a vendor at a local arts and craft fair!

I thought I was too busy for anything other than work and home, but I started thinking about going to the craft fair and not being a vendor, and I knew I would regret it. So I jumped in two weeks before the event. Being last minute just makes it more exciting.

If you follow me on Instagram (@aabracadeborah) or FB you know that the last two weeks I have been kicking butt, taking names, and starting a small business! I know, I must be crazy.

Display for my booth - WMDL - Where's My Dream Life. Zane said it sounds like a radio station. Oops!
I have quite a bit of merchandise ready to go, but I still wish I had signed up earlier, because the ideas are flowing now! Soon my etsy shop will be filled with goodies. Right now, there's only one item listed, because I've been crafting for the event, not etsy. After the craft fair, I'll work on custom orders and building etsy inventory.

Zane has been a huge help! Since I jumped in (which he was 100% supportive of), he has done all he can to take care of Daisy and let me work.

He said I'm much happier now than I was before I started this. I thrive on creativity!

Please come visit me at the craft fair! It's this Saturday (May 11) from 9-2pm! You don't have to buy something from me, even though that'd be great, but just come by and say hello! Tell me it all looks great!

Check the OGC Arts and Craft Fair Facebook event for more information.
